Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation (REREC) has finally send surveyors to Busia County to commence work on the delayed rural electrification project for the financial year 2019/2020.

The project delayed by over one year due to what REREC attributed to logistical challenges until the intervention of Governor Sospeter Ojaamong following his meeting with the Corporation CEO, Mr Peter Mbugua at KAWI House in Nairobi in the company of County Executive Committee Member for Infrastructure and Energy, Mr Okwara Ekirapa.

Chief Officer for Transport and Energy Engineer, Gilbert Oduory said a total of Sh76million has been injected in the project which will cover 35 sites across the county.

Kenlinks Solutions is ready to roll out a digital platform called Sayvu (SAVU) to help curtail the never ending traffic congestion and accidents along the Northern Corridor in Busia and Malaba.

Busia County Chief Officer in the Governor's office in charge of ICT and Communication Lydia Nabwire said the move to outsource the platform followed instructions by the PS for ICT Jerome Ochieng to his team and the County Government to come up with a digital solution for seamless movement of trucks across the Busia and Malaba border points.

Busia Health officials have raised concerns over the tendency by local residents to visit health facilities for cancer check-ups when the disease is at an advanced stage.

Director Medical Services, Dr. Janerose Ambuchi said residents are losing lives due to delayed testing yet the disease can be treated when detected at an early stage.

Kenya and Ugandan delegations held a two-day workshop at Tororo Rock Classic Hotel in Uganda aimed at strengthening Coronavirus (Covid-19) surveillance at Points of Entries (POEs) and within Border Communities.

With informal points proving difficult to close, participants resolved that there is need to strengthen border screening, improve preparedness measures at designated POEs through strengthening capacity for early detection, confirmation , reporting and referral of suspected cases to designated isolation facilities.

Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has said that the future of the county lies on the youth, thus the need to invest in them by providing them with requisite training, skills and employment opportunities.
Addressing participants during a senzitizaton meeting on the Better Utilization of skills for Youth through Quality Apprenticeships (BUSY) Project, the Governor said many people have skills but they have no workshops to practice and he promised to talk to Federation of Kenya Employers, COTU and US Embassy in Kenya to see to it that the project succeeds.

Busia women traders have reasons to smile due to the intervention of the County Government of Busia and European Union through Trade Mark East Africa to construct for them a Safe Market to address challenges of Coronavirus (Covid-19).

Busia County Executive Committee Member for Trade, Investments, Cooperatives and Industry, Judith Maketso said 300 traders will benefit from the partnership between the County Government and TMEA.
Speaking at the One Stop Border Post on Monday during a meeting between Kenya stakeholders and Busia Management Committee, the CECM said the County Government has already donated land for the market with TMEA due to start construction works.
