Vision

A socially secure, self-driven and empowered Busia Community.

Mission

To mobilize Busia Community for sustainable social protection, talent nurturing, heritage preservation and creating equal opportunities for children, youth, women, PLWDs, older persons and other vulnerable groups for holistic growth and development.

Strategic Objectives 

The strategic objectives for the Department are to: -

  1. Improve the well being of children in Busia County.
  2. Establish and equip cultural facilities for development, promotion and preservation of the cultural heritage in Busia County.
  3. Enhance Youth and Women empowerment and participation in development programmes in Busia County.
  4. Improve household livelihoods and capacities of PLWDs, Older persons and other vulnerable groups in Busia County.
  5. Develop and improve sporting facilities and promote sports management in Busia County.
  6. Control and regulate the use of alcohol, establish and operationalize treatment and rehabilitation centres for victims of alcohol and drug abuse in Busia County.
  7. Develop and promote tourism sites, facilities and products to attract both domestic and international tourists.

Mandate

CORE MANDATE
The Department identified performance indicators informed by the Kenya Vision 2030, National
Spatial Plan, MTP III, SDGs, SPS, County Spatial Plan, CIDP, ADP, “Big Four” Initiatives and
implement the following projects:
LIQOUR
Revenue (Liquor licensing)
Support and facilitate Sub- County committees to carry out their functions.
Facilitate citizen participation in matters related to alcohol drugs.

Prepare and submit alcoholic drinks and drug abuse status report.
Construct a Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre for substance abuse victims.
Monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Alcoholic drinks Act 2013.
SPORTS
a) Conduct Sports Activities
i. Kenya Youth Inter-County Sports Competitions (KYISA Games).
b) Promotion of leagues and competitions
i. County league Programs and Competitions.
c) Stadium maintenance and management
i. Repair of perimeter wall
ii. Irrigation of the playing field grass
iii. Maintenance of pitches and surroundings
iv. Maintenance of the running truck
v. Maintenance of sports equipment
vi. Repair of damaged pavilion roof and walls.
d) Participate in KYISA Games competitions
CULTURE
Revenue (Liquor licensing)
Support and facilitate Sub-county Committees to carry out their functions
Construct a treatment and Rehabilitation centre
Construction of community cultural centre in Kakapel.

Posses over 10 years of Experience having worked in the Private sector with International NGOs (ICRHK, Transparency International), 5 years of Experience in the Hotel Industry (Hotel Sirikwa) as Markeing Manager

Achievements

The department of Sports:

  1. Refurbishment of Busia Stadium on going
  2. Treatment and rehabilitation at Butula ongoing
  3. Hosted kyisa games Country wide and emerge d winners in all categories.
  4. Participated in Kicosca games and Elaska.Busia  Scrabble team emerged the best .
  5. Constructed and equiped  two youth empowerment centres
  6. Construction of Mauko cultural center.
  7. Organized and conducted sporting activities across the county.
  8. Disbursed grants to women groups,self Help groups and youth groups across the county.
  9. Supported people with disability and children a Ross the county with assistive devices.
  10. Equiped other five youth centers.Across the County.
