Simbachai Cassava processing plant
Simba Chai Cassava factory is a brain child of EAAPP that was implemented in Teso South Sub County in Busia County from F/y 2012/2013. Initially the project focused on bulking of cassava through farmer groups. As the acreage under cassava increased, there was a felt need for processing and value addition so as to enhance the returns for the farmers. Similarly, establishment of the factory is intended to offer a stable market for the cassava farmers in Busia County and beyond. By establishing Simba Chai cassava factory it is envisioned that cassava value chain will be commercialized and this will spur development in the rural sector.
Beneficiaries: 15,000 households are expected to reap the benefits of the processing plant by selling their produce to the plant each year and the benefits trickling down to about 70,000 indirect beneficiries who are household members of the 15,000 households
Jobs Created: 20 Youth are expected to be employed to the plant for its daily operations and in adittion women and more yout will be employed at farm levels by producers to distribute the raw materials to the plant
