Functions of the Directorate are:
- Advising the County Government on all accounting matters.
- Designing, approving and implementing Government Accounting standards
- Advising the County Government on the best appropriate and ad hoc financial reporting formats.
- Ensure timely reporting of all financial and non- financial information as per the requirements of the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board to relevant authorities.
- Providing the link between County, National Treasuryand the Public Sector Accounting Standards Board on matters relating to public sector financial management
- Developing guidelines for County accounting staffing levels and training to ensure technical competence
- Participation in County accounting policies formulation
- Overseeing the implementation of the approved accounting standards, policies, bases and concepts to ensure compliance.
- Undertake capacity building for all staff in the directorate
- Ensure proper banking arrangements between County government, CBK and Commercial banks
- Direct and control the operations of the County exchequer account
- Participate in the relevant committees of the County Assembly as advisor to the members and follow up on the recommendations thereof including County Assembly memorandum.
- Prudent financial management of County resources by creating an enabling framework and legal environment in the directorate.
- Ensure that Busia county gets unqualified audit opinion by reducing the value of audit queries in the directorate
