EXPORT PROCESSING ZONE AT NASEWA 50 PERCENT COMPLETION
The Export Processing Zone (EPZ) at Nasewa is at 50 percent completion and is expected to be in use by the end of October this year.
According to the Principal Secretary Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry Mr. Abubakar Hassan, the construction works at the site is progressing well and upon completion, the EPZ will attract investors who will offer job opportunities to more than 5000 people in Busia County.
Addressing the area residents during his inspection tour at the site, PS noted that for a start the facility will major in textile, edible oil, and cassava processing industries before welcoming other investors.
Busia Governor, H.E Dr. Paul Otuoma said the EPZ will open up business opportunities between Busia County and outside countries including Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo, and South Sudan noting that the County is promoting cotton farming and other edible oil crop farming to provide enough raw material for textile and oil factories as soon as they start operating.
Funyula Member of Parliament Dr. Oundo Mudenyo who is also a member of the Trade and Investment Committee at the National Assembly, lauded the ongoing work at Nasewa adding that when he goes back to the committee, he will inform it that the money appropriated to the project is being utilized well.
PS was accompanied by Export Processing Zone Authority CEO Richard Omelu, Busia CECM in charge of Agriculture Dr. George Mukok, his ICT, Trade and Industry, Roads and Public works counterparts Mr. Douglas Okiring and Olakachuna Omuse and Andrew Nakitare, Trade and Industries chief Officer Elijah Mwaro, his roads and public works Ahmed Hefow and chief of staff Vincent Mutanda.
