BUSIA COUNTY PARTNERS WITH UK GOVERNMENT IN LAUNCHING AGRICULTURAL DIGITAL PLATFORM.

The County Government of Busia in partnership with the British High Commission on Monday launched Community Action Plan and Agriculture Digital Platform for Kshs. 390 million, for Busia and Mandera counties.

According to the Busia County Governor, H.E Dr. Paul Otuoma, the digital program will empower farmers, especially the youths, women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities, to access agricultural services in real updates such as market, farm inputs and outputs to monetize the rural economy.

“We celebrate the collaboration of the UK Government to revolutionize the agricultural ecosystem and management of resources. This will unlock opportunities for our young people and the marginalized groups, and improve their livelihoods through agricultural production,” said the Governor.

Addressing the Busia residents in Busia during the launch of the platform, the Deputy British High Commissioner, Dr. Ed Barnett reaffirmed their commitment to the continued partnership between the UK Government and Busia County, through the provision of digital skills and training opportunities.

“I urge our young people and marginalized groups to embrace the digital program to revolutionize agriculture and take advantage to supply raw materials to the Export Processing Zone (EPZ) and County Aggregation and Industrial Park (CAIP) at Nasewa, Matayos Constituency.

The projects are earmarked to create over 5000 job opportunities,” he noted.

This platform will connect farmers to markets, give access to agricultural services across the county, and offer real-time weather updates, market information, and growth management advice
