BUSIA COUNTY GIVES GREENLIGHT TO CONSTRUCTION OF A PORT AT SIO PORT

The County Government of Busia handed over a title deed to Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in readiness for the development of a port at Sio Port in Busia County.
The plot allocated to KPA is Samia/Bujwanga/275 which measures 0.6 Hectares for the development of the port.
According to Mr. William Tenei, Manager of Marine Operations at KPA Kisumu on behalf of Managing Director Mr. William Ruto, the port is a link to the open lake whereby Busia residents can trade among themselves or cross over to Uganda and Tanzania.
“The residents can also enjoy trading with neighboring counties like Kisumu, Siaya, Migori and Homabay,” he elaborated.
He noted that KPA intends to construct a modern Jetty with associate facilitation. There will be a storage space for cargo and some landing places for small boats and cargo vessels, a passenger lounge, and a police station for security within the port.
“Apart from that we also expect to have a multi-agency building whereby the rest of government agencies can cooperate and assist in the port operations.”
The Agenga/Nanguba Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mr. Camulus Ojiambo Obada who is also the Deputy Chief whip in the County Assembly, thanked the Governor H.E Dr Paul Nyongesa Otuoma and area Member of Parliament, Dr. Oundoh Mudenyo for their efforts to see to it that Samia people get the port.
“I am happy because of the move and the area will develop in terms of the road network and people within and without will be employed,” he stated.
Busia County Chief of Staff, Mr. Vincent Mutanda was there to oversee the exercise on behalf of the Busia Governor and sign where necessary before the Chief Officer in charge of Lands, Mr. Vincent Wanjala handing over the title deed to Mr. Wiliam Tenei.
