BUSIA COUNTY CONDUCTS SUCCESSFUL VETERINARY SURGERIES TO CONTROL DOG POPULATION IN THE COUNTY
In a significant step towards controlling the dog population, veterinary surgeons from the veterinary directorate performed two successful surgeries on dogs belonging to the Chair of the County Public Service Board (CPSB) at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) Lab stationed in Busia town. Operations included spaying and castration. This is part of the Agriculture Department's initiative to manage the dog population and prevent the spread of diseases.
The surgeries were conducted smoothly, marking a milestone in the county's efforts to implement sustainable methods of population control. By reducing the number of stray dogs, the county aims to create a safer environment for residents and reduce the incidence of dog-related diseases.
Mr. Simplicious Mukok, the County Executive Committee Member for Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Blue Economy, commended the initiative and urged all residents to participate in the county's dog vaccination programs as is crucial in controlling the spread of rabies, he encouraged residents to visit county offices for vaccination services to protect their pets and communities.
