Strategic Objective

The Department’s Strategic Objective is to:

1. Enhance access, equity and quality of Early Childhood Education and Vocational training
2. Promote and integrate Information and communication Technology (ICT) in Early Childhood Education and Vocational Training
3. Strengthen linkages between Vocational Training institutions with communities and industry
4. Promote research and integrate Science, Technology and Innovation in Early Childhood Education and Vocational Training
5. Coordinate quality assurance and review standards of Early Childhood Education and Vocational Training
6. Enhance the capacities of Early Childhood Education and Vocational Training personnel.

Mandate

The Directorate of Early Childhood Development Education is mandated to undertake the following tasks:

1. To improve infrastructure in all ECD centers
2. To equip ECD enters with teachers and learning materials
3. To capacity build the staff in relevant skills by improving competence in delivery of service.
4. To provide nutritional program to all ECD centers in the county.

The Directorate of Vocational Training is mandated to undertake Management of vocational training centers through:

1. Development of policy guidelines, rules and regulations, implementation of policies
2. Implementation of programmes supported by various development partners,
3. Supervision and management of vocational training centre staff,
4. Implementation of Quality Assurance and Standards(QAS) recommendations
5. Promotion of ICT integration and youth innovations, management of instructors and development of human resource in the vocational centers.

Achievements

Achievements

1. Construction of two hundred and seventy five ECD classrooms
2. All ECD classes have received chairs.
3. We have issued to all ECD schools with teaching and learning materials
4. We have employed 450 teachers on permanent and pensionable terms and 547 on contract
5. All ECD schools have operational board of management

Future plans

1. To ensure each ECD centre has two classrooms
2. To make ECD education free and compulsory for all learners.
3. Provide adequate furniture for all children
4. To equip ECD centres with outdoor play equipment
5. To construct model ECD centers in each sub county.
