Directorate

The Directorate is charged with:

1. Domesticating/ implementing National policy on culture and heritage at county level
2. Developing, implementing and reviewing county policy on culture and heritage
3. Regulating betting, casinos and other forms of gambling
4. Liquor licensing
5. Complementing and operationalizing community cultural centers as focal point for promotion of cultural dialogue and expressions
6. Documenting and preserving historical/cultural sites indigenous knowledge and other elements of intangible cultural heritage.
7. Developing creative cultural industries and commercialization of the arts (fine creative and performing arts
8. Coordinating of cultural exchange programs at the county national and international levels
9. Empowering cultural practitioners through capacity building workshops, exhibitions, symposia, seminars, concerts art and traditional food competitions and festivals.
10. Educating the public on cultural rights and interlectual property rights in the county
11. Organising county music cultural festivals to promote unity, cohesion and the spirit of patriotism
12. Preserving and promoting indigenous healthy nutrition
13. Identifying development partners and stakeholders for cultural development and prosperity
14. Complementing and operationalizing county museums
15. Developing policies and legislative frameworks for culture and heritage
16. Promoting and developing cultural/ creative industries such as perfoming arts and visual literary arts as economic sector.
17. Promoting preserving and developing Kenya’s indigenous knowledge systems such as  traditional medicine, indigenous foods for improvement of livelihoods and safeguarding of the intangible cultural heritage for posterity.
18. Promoting national cohesion, intergration and appreciation of cultural diversity
19. Mainstreaming cultural national ethos/ universal living values systems in society
20. Researching, documenting and disseminating cultural information and research findings
21. Promoting and developing cultural infrastructure such as international arts and culture centre, National arts gallery and community cultural centers/homesteads
22. Coordinating registration of community and cultural groups and herbal practitioners
23. Coordinating and facilitating issuance of grants to community cultural groups
