Dr. Ayaa holds a doctorate degree in environmental studies and community development from Kenyatta University (2009-2013). He also holds a masters of Arts degree in Rural Sociology and Community Development from the University of Nairobi (1992-1995) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics and Sociology from the University of Nairobi (1988-1991). He is a community development professional and Monitoring and Evaluation Consultant with more than twenty-four years’ experience. He also has vast experience as a lecturer and researcher gained from institutions of higher learning. Prior to joining the County government of Busia, Dr. Ayaa was a senior lecturer in the Department of Development Studies in the School of Human and Social Sciences at Daystar University where he served for a period of (24) twenty-four years.

Dr. Ayaa has also served in various positions in different organization which include being trade development officer in the Ministry of trade and industry, Head of department (Community Development, Social Work and Psychology at Daystar University, Chair board of governors in different secondary schools within Teso North Sub-County, a committee member of the Nairobi City County Ward Development Fund among others. He is also the current programme leader (Community Development) at Lukenya University.

Dr. Ayaa is also an external examiner for Masters and PhD Theses in the Departments of Development studies, Sociology and Social work at the Catholic University of Eastern Africa as well as at the Institute of Social Transformation and Mission of Tangaza University College from March 2014 to date.  Dr. Ayaa has written book chapters and published journal articles in the field of Environmental Protection with a bias in Indigenous Knowledge and Environmental Conservation.
