Claims that health institutions in Busia County have no drugs are a figment of people’ s imagination, Chief Officer for Health Dr Asoka Itur has said.
This comes in the wake of demonstrations organized by ODM Bunyala branch in Port Victoria on Wednesday due to alleged lack of drugs and poor service delivery in health institutions in health institutions.
Addressing the press in his office on Wednesday, Dr Asoka said the county government has injected a lot of funds in the purchase of drugs which were available in hospitals.
” We have a buffer stock that can last three months. I invite any interested party to visit the medical stores at Matayos to dispel false notion that there is acute drugs shortage in the county’s health institutions.
The budget for purchase of drugs was increased from Sh150m to 350m. The county spent Sh88m in the purchase of drugs last month. It is hurting to make such wild claims. We need to be constructive in our criticisms instead of blowing issues out of proportion.
Dr Asoka said service delivery had improved contrary to some people who think otherwise. What the national government took to do in 50 years people want the county government to execute in two years which is not possible.
He said the welfare of health staff was being addressed, adding that the recent strike was caused by small misunderstanding which was solved after three days.
