The Anglican Church of Kenya Katakwa Diocese on Saturday bid farewell to one of the founder members Canon Francis Devis Omekede, 78, who was laid to rest at Awata in Amagoro Division.
Bishop Okude led the Diocese in giving Canon Omekede a befitting send off. Others church leaders who attended the burial included Okude’s predecessor Zakayo Epus, Rev Zakayo Masake, Rev Henry Ngugi and John Kanyenje of Emmanuel Parish in Ruaraka, Nairobi, Rev John Emokol of Bukede Diocese in Uganda and nine Canons from the Diocese.
Bishop Emeritus Epus the late Omekede used him as a messenger and guard during the county down to the awarding of the Diocese in 1991.
” The Bishop retired urged Christians to think about their funerals and not who will bury them. ” Think how you want your burial day to be,” he said.
The deceased wife Melisa Omekede said his husband never beat him a single day for the last 51 years of their marriage. ” I am thankful that you were an influence in my life and were an amazing joyful person that will forever be in our hearts. Life may fade but memories never die. Rest in peace,” she said.
Bishop John Okude revealed that members of the Synod including the Canons, members and priests will meet on October 13starting 10am at the St John’s Cathedral Katakwa to chart the way forward for the Diocese. ” Issues of bringing tricks in pastoral duties have no meaning
