Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has pledged to revamp Sports in the county to march other counties which have earned international acclaim through sports.
Speaking after his swearing in ceremony, the Governor said much talents abound in the country, thus the need to encourage the youth to venture into various disciplines that they have comparative advantage.
” My Government will take sports very seriously. I want Busia to enter the annals of history by producing world beaters in athletics, football clubs in the county to feature in top tier league among others,” he said.
To confirm his commitment to raise the profile of sports in the county, Ojaamong said the Sports department will be funded very well to realize his agenda for sports in the county.
Busia has produced top football stars with the latest being Victor Wanyama who is playing for English Premier League side Tottenhum Hotspurs and MacDonald Mariga
Other renowned stars from Busia includes JJ Masiga, Wilberforce Mulamba, Seoul Olympics Gold Medalist the late Wangila Napunyi, Dick Tiger Muruga and Dan Amuke among others.
Football Kenya Federation Busia Sub branch chairman William Musumba said the Governor’s promise to revamp sports in the County was a welcome move.
” It our prayer that the officers who will be given the mandate to man the sports docket as County Executive Committee Members, Chief Officers and Director of Sport should have vast knowledge and different proves of being the best sports giants even in the school careers.
He or she must have good ideas and clear information on various sports disciplines within the County and have a good coordination with senior staff from different sports sections like FKF, KVF, AK and many others for better delivery,” said Musumba.
FKF Teso Sub branch chairman Moses Imai said the person to man the CEC and Chief Officer docket at the department of Sports must be sports oriented and a former player with skills in the game.
