Busia Sub-County Hospitals have modern equipment including X-Rays, Ultra Sound, laboratory and theatre to handle all emergencies contrary to sceptics, Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has said.
Speaking after commissioning the male and female wards at Kocholia Sub County Hospital in Teso North on Tuesday, the Governor said all sub county hospitals in the seven sub county have modern equipment, thus minimizing cases of referrals to Busia County Referral Hospital.
“I wonder why some people think our sub county hospitals are not offering quality service?” adding that such pessimists are anti-development.
H.E Ojaamong said many Ugandans seek treatment in Kenya and yet our own people are undermining the progress my Government is making in revamping the health sector in the county.
The Governor said press reports ranking the County among the top 10 in diagnosing illnesses is spot on due to modern equipment that have been installed in the health institutions across the county.
The area Constituency Development Fund has set aside Sh3m for purchase of land for construction of Kenya Medical Training Centre. The Governor pledged to help area MP Oku Kaunya in constructing the facility which will be the second in the county after KMTC Busia Campus.
Deputy Governor Moses Mulomi said CT scan at the Busia County referral Hospital is already operational while the ICU/High Dependency Unit is progressing well; adding that contract for construction of New-born Unit has been awarded.
He said the morgue at Kocholia is functional with cooler installed, noting that modern laundry machines have also been installed at Kocholia, Busia Referral and Port Victoria; Ksh7.5m have been allocated for installation of laundries in the remaining sub county hospitals.
Director Medical Services Dr Janerose Ambuchi said the Facility Improvement Facility which is up and running will solve many challenges facing health institutions in the county if managed well.
County Medical Director of Health Dr Melsa Lutomia said contracts have already been awarded for construction of a Laboratory and male ward at Kocholia.
